About

This site contains a selection of work designed by Simon Maidment. The examples are intended to illustrate the breadth of his practice; consultancy work, design for manufacture, design for exhibition, conceptual work and research.

After graduating from the Royal College of Art and working for Tom Dixon he established Sam Design Ltd. Clients have included Authentics, Driade, Levis, Offi and Mathmos. His work is concerned with the familiar and in particular our perception of materials, forms and making techniques. He is interested in intelligent making; the shrewd and creative use of materials and manufacturing techniques. In 2001 he was awarded the Peugeot Design Award for Ceramics. Simon is Dean of Design at UAL, across Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon Colleges and teaches at the Royal College of Art.
